The Best Botanical Wallpapers [2021]

I know that wallpaper divides opinion - and hanging it can take a lot of patience! But statement wallpaper can dramatically transform the feel and look of a room overnight - and for that reason, it’s definitely worthy of consideration.

It seems that botanical wallpaper in particular is enjoying a major renaissance right now, probably because of the modern Cottagecore trend and our return to a more nostalgic way of life. I think our nesting instinct has never been stronger because of Lockdown (which one are we in again? 2? 14? 2387?). We’ve been at home so long, unable to indulge in stylish weekend breaks or outings to our favourite bars, cafes, restaurants (I could go on…but it’s too depressing!), so instead we’ve turned our attentions toward creating cosy, safe-feeling, boutique spaces in our own homes. Plus, there’s the fact that many of us haven’t been able to visit exotic climes or really venture beyond a dog walk in the local park, which has probably encouraged us to bring the outside in more than we’ve done previously.

What appeals to me most about botanical prints like these is that they don’t easily date - they’ve been popular throughout the centuries and, when mixed with your own treasured finds, antiques and some modern accent pieces or pops of colour, can really help you create a look that’s eclectic, individual and ultimately timeless.

If you’re feeling brave enough to dip your toe in the water, but not enough to go the whole hog and paper your whole living room or dining room (ceiling and all!), think about using statement wallpaper to glam up a small, otherwise dull space in your home instead - an ensuite, WC, utility room or bootroom, for example. Or even a cloffice, if you’re working from home in the longer term and want to transform that unused closet space into a funky creative corner! Plus, wood-panelling on the lower half of your wall can off-set the pattern - and brass accessories can really add luxe detailing.
